Duo recording with percussionist Lee Noyes and guitarist Barry Chabala playing electric, a mix of out percussion and expansive yet understated guitar work.

"I've only heard Barry in a handful of contexts (don't know Noyes at all) but I nonetheless surprised at how efi-y and even free-jazz-bluesy (at times) much of this music was. It varies a good bit, unspooling out into less definable areas (which, imho, work better, as in much of the second track) but seems to be drawn back into the sort of playing that I think of as related to 80s downtown NYC fringe, a mix of percussive clatter and multi-idiomatic guitar. There's a section in the third cut where Barry creates a really fine low, hum/throb but the percussion at the same time seems to "routine" in a free sense, like Jamie Muir had just teleported in. "Barry and I met and have been collaborating sporadically via one-offs and short projects since mid '07. We both play guitar, and draw from a similar set of influences. Over the years that I've been listening to Barry's work in various settings from solo to groups, I've been hearing a definite progression in his music, particularly in the consideration given to the placement and import of sound and silence; given outlet through his guitar and laptop. Over this time, I feel I too have worked with these considerations; a parallel path, albeit through dedicated study in percussion.
These paths meet for the first time in this, Illuminati: our first recording together over the course of an album; an extended study in space, time and timbre; a concentrated meeting; and one of great significance to me."-Lee Noyes
