Werder, Felix
The Tempest - Electronic Music

Label: Pogus
Country: USA

Three compositions of early 70's electronic and electronics & percussion works from this Berlin born Australian composer. Werder, born 1922, fled Nazi Germany in 1935 and was interned in Australia for four years as a political prisoner. During that time he developed his compositional language, eventually entering the forefront of Australian avant-garde music. Initially working in 12 tone music, his evolution led him to improvisatory and collage style works, demanding performance pieces, increasingly incorporating electronics into his compositions starting in the late 60's. "The Tempest", included on this CD and based on Giorgione's 'Tempesta,' is considered his electronic masterpiece. Two other pieces from the 70's are included, both works for synthesizer and percussion, "Oscussion" taken from a 1971 concert recording. Last, Warren Burt realizes his 1992 "V/Line" composition for computer. Important historical electronic works.
