Golub, Thom
Lexicon

Label: House Leek Audio
Country: Canada

A solo improvisation, recorded perhaps under duress, Lexicon is a miniature document of Thom Golub's celebrational, monumental and sustained attack-style on the double bass. Relentlessly and ruthlessly scrambling through passages between dissonance and tunefulness, extended and traditional technique, Lexicon demonstrates the full sonic palette of the acoustic bass and culminates precariously between free improvisation and pure aural candy.

Thom Golub lives as a bassist and composer in the northern parts of western Canada. He has developed and maintains a strong interest in improvised creative music. He is a founding member of The Improvised Network (TIN), who has produced two festivals of improvised music and ran a weekly creative music series, off and on, for five years. Together they have also produced over 100 CDr releases.

Thom loves to play the bass in solo or quasi solo (i.e. with a dancer) contexts. He has released over ten CDs of solo bass improvisations to date. The last two - The Dove in the Belly and Fire Muse are available on Arrival Records, who will also be releasing a collection of three 20 minute solo bass improvisations - entitled 60 minutes - in late 2006 early 2007.
