Italian pianist/composer and teacher Gianni Lenoci has played extensively with musicians such as Steve Lacy, Joëlle Léandre, Steve Grossman, Don Moye, Han Bennink, Paul Lovens, &c. His repertoire includes avant composers Morton Feldman, John Cage, Érik Satie, Federico Mompou and Arnold Schönberg. Lenoci is also the artistic director of Il Tempo Sospeso, a festival of improvised music held in Santo StefaKusterno di Sessanio, Italy.

Sextant - the second release by Gianni Lenoci on Ambiances Magnétiques - was born from his teaching methodologies' workshops at Nino Rota Conservatory in Monopoli. Lenoci's experiments cover a large musical territory in which jazz draws inspiration from contemporary music. Aside from his own compositions Lenoci also plays works from Morton Feldman and Eric Dolphy. Lenoci himself says of the music: "For years now, my main focus has been to try to create music that is not 'contaminated' but rather 'informed' and intelligent. Multiple and multifaceted music, yet coherent music nonetheless. Organic music made with gestures shedding light on the unclassifiable areas of language."
