Jazz/avant trio from NYC led by guitarist Daniel Raimi, who pens all the tunes with the exception of a work by Carl Testa and one by Paul Motian. Thanks in the credits to Motian and Anthony Braxton give a hint of where Raimi's passion lies, but it's in the more melodic and interesting harmonic fields that this band excels, as the pacing makes an accessible music with underlying sophistication. Working without a traditional rhythm section the pieces are structured in interesting ways; trumpeter Varmus stands out with great tone and phrasing. A good record for a beautiful fall day.
