Artist Biographies:

"Étienne Brunet is a musician, composer and improviser, born in Paris on January 2, 1954. He plays saxophone alto and soprano, bass clarinet , bagpipes, harmonicas and electronic instruments.

He took part in children's choir at the Opéra de Nice at the age of seven, then re-learned music as a self-taught musician as a teenager and took classes with Steve Lacy whose originality of musical thought will influence his entire career. He will do many jobs in addition to music (press modelist, book worker, saxophone tuner, operator on synthesizer writing for television channels). In 1979, he founded the trio Axolotl (not to be confused with other homonymous groups that came one or two decades later) with Marc Dufourd and Jacques Oger. In 1984 he founded the group Aller Simple Paris, with the accordionist Odile Lavault known as Gina Sbu, devoted to folk music arrangements from Eastern Europe. From 1987 he collaborated with the poet Julien Blaine . He performed with musicians such as Jac Berrocal , Anthony Coleman , Wayne Dockery , Jean-Jacques Birge , Jean-François Pauvros , Guillaume Loizillon, Erik Minkkinen, Jean-Jacques Avenel , Yasuaki Shimizu , Emiko Ota, and the Romanian drummer Cornelius Stroe; he writes various music and rides the Zig Rag Orchestra, then 3D Jazz and Ring Sax Modulator with Thierry Negro (bass) and Erick Borelva (drums). In 1995, he inaugurated a contract for several discs with the Saravah label of Pierre Barouh with a disc dedicated to Louis Jordan composed of exploded songs, La Légende du Franc Rock And Roll . In 1997 he recorded duets with Daunik Lazro , Daniel Mille , Thierry Madiot , Hubert Dupont , Camel Zekri and Fred van Hove, which were transformed into samples and mixed in the album B / Free / Bifteck . In 2007, he plays in duo with Diemo Schwarz (electronics). In recent years, it happens a little less, mainly solo, sometimes within the group of Senegalese grilet Djeour Cissokho.

He wrote numerous columns: Journal Web Intime from 1998 to 2001 (before fashion blogs ), then, from 2003 to 2007, Petite Fleur Electronique for Jazz Magazine devoted to the tune of time in music. His musical career is atypical. Initially impassioned by improvisation , he studied Indian music and electronic music which he mixes in a ferociously post - modern , jazz , funk , folk and free approach in the same composition."

"Fred Marty was born in Blaye (Gironde) in 1970. After studying classical bass studies, he devoted his work to improvisation and experimentation of various game modes on bass. He strives to develop a personal language, inspired by everyday sounds, making some forget the bass itself (distorted sounds, harmonics "gaps" in incomplete or misleading spectrum percussion sounds without specific height, sounds The rubbing of the fingers or the hand on the body of the double bass). He also modifies the timbre by inserting between ropes of wooden or metal rods. Each part of the body of the double bass becomes an instrument of its own.

Thus, co-creation he also collaborated in multidisciplinary projects combining dance, music, and video playback, including Anne Ropers collective recidiva in UNICA, a project calling itself "night moves" around the collection of poems of the same Title of Henri Michaux, or with Bérengère Altieri-Leca in the duo OKAMI.

Fred Marty has played with Yuko Oshima, Ai Watanabe, Birgitte Lyregaard, Yoko Arai, Frederic Blondy, Edward Perraud, Itaru Oki, Claude Speaks, Xavier Lopez, Michel Doneda Sebastien Bouhana, Marcos Fernandes, Usui Yasuhiro, Alvise Sinivia Michael Nick, Daunik Lazro, Isabelle Duthoit, Benoit Cancoin, Matsumoto Kenichi, Jean Marc Foussat, Yoko Arai, Eric Dambrin John Cuny, Jean Brice Godet, Alexandre Bellenger, Nush Werchowska Mathieu Garrouste Pascal Marzan, Cyprien Busolini, Nicolas Souchal, Deborah Walker, Patricia Bosshard, Jean-Marc Foussat, Yoko Miura, Francesco Pastacaldi Richard Comte, Hideo Ikegami, Ugo Boscain and works with dancers of butoh Gyouhei Zaitsu, Maki Watanabe and dancer Bérengère Altieri-Leca.

Since 2012 he is a member of ONCEIM, an orchestra conducted by Frédéric Blondy."

"Averse to any linearity, the idiosyncratic Luís Lopes, a musician connected to Jazz, improvised and experimental music, has been building his career, a simple and singular story, characterised by a unique voice, free of corsets, formal ties or constraints and mannerisms regarding strict stilistical implications. He is an unfollower... experiments himself through paradoxes. Invokes teachings by following standards of subversion to any possibility of pre-established idea. Eminent self-subversion... Introspective timeless trance.

Running Multi-international groups, especially his Humanization 4tet (with Portuguese Rodrigo Amado and Texan's Aaron and Stefan Gonzalez), Lisbon Berlin Trio (with Germans Christian Lillinger, Robert Landfermann), and his "Noise" or "Love Song(s)" Solos, plus his highly recommended records he is growing as an international artist, playing at important Festivals and venues not just in Portugal but in Europe and U.S.

Coming from a rock/punk and blues background, while studying at local classic and rock schools, he began studying Jazz at Hot Club Portugal School and then was finalist at Escola de Jazz do Barreiro/Lisbon. Then did studies with Saxophonist Joe Giardullo who opened for him the doors of modern jazz harmony complexity through the George Russell's "Lydian Chromatic Concept of Tonal Organization", plunging Lopes into the world of improvised and experimental music, without disregard for his fascination with distorion and guitar feedbacks, expressed in different incursions into noise music, while also canalizes energys towards projects where he can develop his composing abilities.

In more recent times, Lopes has played and / or recorded with different artists connected to jazz and improvised music, such as Noel Akchoté, Christian Lillinger, Robert Landfermann, Marco Von Orelly, Marc Unternahrer, Adam Lane, Igal Foni, Floros Floridis, Joe Giardulo, Harvey Sorgen, Benjamin Duboc, Phill Niblock, Ernesto Rodrigues, Paulo Curado, Sei Miguel, Rodrigo Amado, Hernâni Faustino, Gabriel Ferrandini, Rodrigo Pinheiro, Miguel Mira, Aaron Gonzalez, Stefan Gonzalez, Dennis Gonzalez, Elliot Levin, Alfred Hart, Daniel Levin, Reuben Radding, Daniel Carter, Jeb Bishop, Josh Abrams, Jean-Luc Guionnet, Samuel Blaser, Boris Hauf, Evan Parker, Olivier Benoit, Fred Lomberg-holm, Valentin Ceccaldi, Gonçalo Almeida, among many others."

"He has been playing the violin for 30 years and in that time has played all genres of music ranging from contemporary music to free jazz and improvised music, live and in the studio.

His main interest shifted towards contemporary improvised and composed music.

The relationship with his instruments is focused in sonic and textural elements.

Electronic music was an early influence on his approach to violin playing, which challenges traditional romantic concepts of the violin/viola through use of preparations and micro tuning.

Active in different settings on the Portuguese scene for free improvised music, both as a collaborator and in leading his own groups.

Music for Dance, Cinema, Video and Performance.

Has created the record label Creative Sources Recordings in 1999, which mainly concentrates on releasing experimental and electro-acoustic music."

1. Radium 26:57
sample the album:

descriptions, reviews, &c.

Recorded at CreativeFest#12 in Lisbon at O'Culto de Ajuda, the 21-piece electroacoustic ensemble Isotope takes on the chemical element Radium in a gripping piece of evolving improvisation, intensely restrained and extremely detailed, orchestrated with cello, baroque violin, double bass, acoustic & electric guitars, zither, psaltery, winds, brass, keys, electronics and percussion. This element is noted for its use in modern nuclear physics, and also for its tragic discovery Marie Curie, who died from its exposure. Here the Isotope Ensemble presents the element almost as a half-life decaying, generating subliminal energy that briefly pulses out intense moments, then returns to a near-dormant stage. As the piece advances, the energy expands and takes on more kinetic power, never exploding yet increasing in force and aural interest. Each of the players brings a unique approach to their instrument, and the commingling of unusual sounds yields and alien ambiance; intent listening reveals layers of detail and parallel processes that create the ultimate progress of the piece. A quietly radiant and powerful performance.
