Two fascinating experimental concepts executed by Roger Turner, Henry Kaiser, Martin Kuchen, Damon Smith, Jeff Coffin, Ed Pettersen, Tania Chen, & Jordan Muscatello; Disc 1, each musician improvised alone to NASA recordings from the Voyager spacecraft, the results mixed together over the Voyager track; Disc 2, three improvisers play together in response to Voyager tracks.

"Improv artists around the world play to the interstellar sound recordings made by the Voyager spacecraft. Space - we are answering, are you listening?
It started with the WOW signal. Then the Voyager spacecraft Improv artists around the world play to the interstellar sound recordings made by the Voyager spacecraft. Space - we are answering, are you listening? recordings appeared one day on his screen. Listening to the sounds from space, he was entranced. He recognized the sounds... "This is part of the sound I have been hearing in my head all these years". Then he wanted to see what would happen when other musicians heard them. What if each musician improvised with the Voyager sounds without hearing the others? Would the separate recordings make music together?
Disc One
Henry Kaiser - 18 string harp guitar (California), Martin Küchen - sax (Sweden), Jeff Coffin - sax (Nashville), Damon Smith - acoustic bass (Massachusetts), Tanya Chen - piano (San Francisco), Jordan Muscatello - electric bass (London), Roger Turner - drums (London). Ed Pettersen - guitar (London)
They selected four of the nine Voyager recordings from the NASA site. Each musician went into the studio alone and improvised to the Voyager track. The individual musician tracks were mixed against the backdrop of the original Voyager recording.
Disc Two
Martin Küchen - sax, Roger Turner - drums, Ed Pettersen - guitar
With five Voyager tracks still left to play with, including ones of a more complicated and dynamic nature, Part two of the experiment was to have three improvisors live in a room responding to the recording fed into the room. Live with no edits or overdub."-Split Rock Records
