Multi-reedist Vinny Golia playing ethnic woodwinds including danso, kaval, moxeneo, marori bone flute, &c. in a series of duets with Barre Phillips, Joelle Leandre, Bert Turetzky, and Lisa Mezzacappa.

Golia / Phillips / Leandre / Turetzky / Mezzacappa
The Ethnic Project

Label: Kadima
Country: Israel

Improvisations incorporating ethnic aereophones and contemporary contrabass sounds from multi-reedist Vinny Golia and bassists Barre Phillips, Joelle Leandre, Bert Turetzky, Lisa Mezzacappa. Each collaborator was recorded in a different setting, including at the University of California, at Kadim Studios in Jerusalem, and at the ICAM Studio. Golia performs on ethnic woodwinds including danso, kaval, moxeneo, marori bone flute, &c.

The Ethnic Project

"Last year Jean Claude Jones suggested a recording with Kadima bassists in which I would play on various ethnic instruments. I thought this was a challenging concept and agreed, as did most of the bassists. I also suggested the inclusion of Lisa Mezzacappa. So you now have in your hand an authentic collaborative document of me and these sterling musicians improvising with woodwinds from around the world. I truly hope you enjoy the music, special gifts from the many creative improvisers who fill my world of sound."-Vinny Golia, from the liner notes
