German pianist Achim Kaufmann's trio with Valdi Kolli on bass and NY drummer Jim Black in a nuanced album that flows with alluring melody and creative fire, music of discovery and power.

Kaufmann, Achim
Verivyr

Label: Pirouet
Country: Germany

"Kyrill was the name of a major storm that swept over Western Europe on the same day that the three musicians were traveling to Munich to record the CD for Pirouet. An immensely exciting music came into being under the impact of this force of nature. And the imprint of the trio's playing style is still there – that's also the reason they are called the Kyrill Trio. There is the same uncompromising spirit in the new recording – and an expressive power that exerts an immense pull.

The pieces on this CD are enigmatic and loaded with energy. Achim Kaufmann has coined the CD with a fictitious word: Verivyr – a title that Kaufmann says "may allow for various associations – one could associate the title with such words as verify, river, fire – and also the 'yr' in Kyrill. An exciting flow of musical thoughts, the heat of creative moments, the intensity of motion is blended with the allure of continual discovery and new musical possibilities. One will immediately hear the multifarious possibilities of this trio; the originality of their play is raised to a higher power."-Pirouet
