Subtle exploration of the jazz trio from this Montreal based group whose music is driven by Middle Eastern influences melodies and the exotic percussive work of Ziya Tabassian.

Bourque / Mailloux / Tabassian
Bomata

Label: Malasartes
Country: Canada

"Subtle exploration of the trio form. The compositions by Jean Felix Mailloux have some jazz influences mixed with world rhythms. Bomata present the music of their eponymous first album. The playful side of the melodies, the interaction between musicians and the obvious pleasure of playing music together characterizes this trio. The beauty and simplicity of Bomata's music will reach out to people."-Malasartes

"Jean Felix Mailloux is involved in several projects, either as producer, composer, arranger, or bassist, including the Trio Jean Félix Mailloux, which performed at the Montréal International Jazz Festival in 2003 and 2007. In 2006, the trio recorded and produced the CD Aurores Boréales. Mailloux is also a member of Bomata, the string trio Cordâme, Trio Damian Nisenson, Swing Guitares, and L'Agence du Swing (with Claude Vendette and Pierre Tanguay, among others). He has also recorded with Marie-Michele Desrosiers, Vincent Julien, Iks, and many others. He works on film music with Robert M. Lepage, Bertrand Chenier, and Francis Grandmont; and on stage music for Gregory Hlady (theatre), Louise Bedard (dance), and Daniel Soulieres (dance). Mailloux teaches music and conducts improvisation workshops with Pierre Tanguay and Claude Vendette."-Dame
