"If Thousands formed in 2000 as a project intended to experiment sounds using instruments Christian McShane & Aaron Molina had no training using. Five years, four albums, & three EPs later the experiment has proven a successful excursion into drone, soundscapes, & warm sonic blankets. i have nothing is the fourth release by Duluth, Minnesota's If Thousands. The duo of McShane & Molina returned to Crazy Beast Studio & Ben Durrant in Minneapolis where they recorded their first album Candice Recorder. Heading back to experiments in sound rather than formal songs, they were joined in the studio by the bands GST & 2i as well as Paul Metzger (TVBC) for a two-day improvisational recording session. The new album is the best results of this session.
i have nothing ventures into some new sonic textures instead of just staying the course of minimalist drone that If Thousands is known for. As well as ambient soundscapes, they bring to the foreground bluegrass & indian oriented sounds on songs like "push", "trout", & "stella & me". On other songs like "walking otis" they embrace lo-fi sampling & incidental noise.
With i have nothing, If Thousands secure their legacy in the underground alongside Windy & Carl, Stars of the Lid, Flying Saucer Attack, & Aarktica in their own stylized mastery of indie ambient."-Silber Media
