Perhaps Roscoe Mitchell's finest album outside of the Art Ensemble of Chicago, first solo and then groupings with Anthony Braxton, Henry Threadgill, Joseph Jarman, Richard Abrams, George Lewis, &c.

Mitchell, Roscoe
Nonaah

Label: NESSA
Country: USA

An important reissue of Roscoe Mitchell's most famous (and infamous) recording outside of the Art Ensemble of Chicago, 1977's Nonaah (pronounced 'No Nay Ah') begins with Mitchell performing the title track solo in a confrontational concert at Willisau, Sweden. The album presents solos and various groupings with other artists, including a duo with Anthony Braxton recorded in Chicago, 1977, and a group version of "Nonaah" with Joseph Jarman, Henry Threadgill, and Wallace McMillan. This double CD issue includes 5 additional solo pieces not on the original release.
