Virtuoso kora player Djibril Diabate is a modern interpreter of traditional pieces with a unique style taking this music of the Malian culture one step further.

Diabate, Djibril
Hama

Label: Terp Records
Country: The Netherlands

"Djibril Diabate is a new star under the kora (21-string harp-lute) players. An absolute virtuoso, he takes the kora playing a step further, but on the other hand he is deeply rooted in the Malian culture. A real griot, from the most well-known musical families, the Diabates. He is a nephew of Toumani Diabate, who is also his teacher.

His interpretations of traditional pieces show his unique individual style, but the stories and sagas he tells with it, are centuries old and this way musically preserved. The ten songs on the CD are recorded at two of Djibril's visits to Europe. He's a well respected guest on many festivals."-Terp
