The percussion-less Free Fall trio (Vandermark/Wiik/Haker) write original compositions for jazz in a chamber setting influenced by Jimmy Giuffre's 60s trio work.

Free Fall
The Point In A Line

Label: Smalltown Superjazzz
Country: Norway

Using clarinets, piano and bass Free Fall create outstanding moods that bring the heritage of Jimmy Giuffres` legendary 60s Trio with Paul Bley and Steve Swallow into the new modern territory. The Point In A Line presents the meeting between the innovative jazz scenes in Oslo and Chicago in music that is melancholic, dark and moody, but also melodic and intriguing.

Free Fall was originally organized in 2001 by bassist Ingebrigt Haker Flaten, reedist Ken Vandermark, and pianist Haavard Wiik as an opportunity to work together in a chamber music environment without percussion. Inspired in part by Jimmy Giuffre's classic group with Paul Bley and Steve Swallow, the group quickly found its own way of working with velocity, space, sound and time. The trio has always only performed their own original compositions.
