"French musician Bruno Duplant is one of the most talked-about artists on the experimental music scene today. In recent years he's presented many outstanding composed pieces and released a succession of excellent recordings on labels around the world. The abundance and vitality of his dwork are remarkable.

On this album, two compositions by Duplant are performed by Ordinary Affects, led by Boston-based musician/composer Morgan Evans-Weiler. Ordinary Affects is an experimental music ensemble with an established reputation for performing works by contemporary composers such as Christian Wolff, Antoine Beuger, Michael Pisaro, Jurg Frey, and Kyoko Akama.

Track 1 (21 minutes) is a quintet and Track 2 (26 minutes) is a string quartet. Each piece has a highly controlled, spacious tempo throughout. The sounds' overlapping and their successive emergence have a dreamlike quality that gently beckons the listener into a state of abstraction. "Bruno Duplant is a composer, improviser and multi-instrumentist (double bass, percussion, electronics, phonography...) living in the north of France. He has collaborated with lot of instrumentalists around the globe and has also made solo works for such labels as B-Boim, Engraved Glass, Peira, Ilse, Impulsive Habitat, Con-v, Unfathomless, Et le feu comme matière formatable technologiquement, Audiotong, Insubordinations and his own label curated with Pedro Chambel, Rhizome.s...

For him, composing, playing, improvising music is like imagining, creating and sometimes decomposing new spaces/realities, new entities. But it is also a reflection on 'memory', not the historic one, but a memory of all things, spaces & moments.

His new works, mostly based on phonographies & graphic scores, perfectly reflect that."

"Cellist and electronic musician Laura Cetilia is a performer, composer, educator, and presenter. A daughter of mixed heritage, she is at home with in-betweeness. As a composer, her music has been described as "unorthodox loveliness" by the Boston Globe and and her debut solo album was hailed as "alternately penetrating and atmospheric" in Sequenza 21. The Grove Dictionary of American Music describes her electroacoustic duo Mem1 as a "complex cybernetic entity" that "understands its music as a feedback loop between the past and present." Mem1 has held artist residencies and toured extensively throughout the U.S. and Europe. In her viola/cello duo, Suna No Onna, she has worked closely with and premiered works by composers André Cormier, Jürg Frey and Antoine Beuger, among others. As a product of the now-dwindling public school music program, Laura believes in the right to accessible music education and is a Resident Musician at Community MusicWorks, a non-profit organization that provides free after-school music education programs for children in urban neighborhoods of Providence, RI. There she teaches cello, is co-director of the media lab and the curator of the Ars Subtilior experimental music series. She is also a proud mother of one."

"Jordan Dykstra (b. 1985, Sioux City, Iowa) is a Brooklyn-based violist and composer exploring the performer-composer-listener relationship through the incorporation of conceptual, graphic, and text-based elements. In 2007 he moved to Portland, OR and became involved in the experimental music scene in the Pacific NW. Aside from performing and recording with individuals and bands - including Dirty Projectors, A Winged Victory for the Sullen with Hildur Guðnadóttir, Atlas Sound, and Valet - he worked at Marriage Records and Publishing House. In 2014 he received a Career Opportunity Grant from the Oregon Arts Commission to apprentice with Daníel Bjarnason, composer and conductor of the Icelandic Symphony Orchestra, in Reykjavík, Iceland. He received his BFA in 2016 under Michael Pisaro, Ulrich Krieger, and Wolfgang von Schweinitz at the California Institute of the Arts in Los Angeles. In 2018 he received his MA in Experimental Composition from Wesleyan University in Connecticut where - under the mentorship of Alvin Lucier and astrophysicist Seth Redfield - his thesis explored connections between microtonality and the cosmic distance ladder. In 2019 he received a Cultural Grant from the Netherlands-America Foundation to compose "The Arrow of Time" and premiere the work with Reinier van Houdt in Amsterdam. In 2020 The Arrow of Time was listed as one of the best Modern Composition albums by The Wire and included in The Best Contemporary Classical Albums of 2020 by Bandcamp. As a media composer he has numerous credits including the films Blow the Man Down, Hail Satan?, It Comes At Night, and the 2019 Emmy winner for Outstanding Investigative Documentary Documenting Hate. His compositions for film have been heard at Cannes, Sundance, TriBeCa, TIFF, and the IFFR. His performance highlights include MOCA (CA), Harpa (Iceland), Musikfestval Bern (Switzerland), Ftarri (Tokyo), CHAFF (Brussels), Echo Bücher (Berlin), Syros Institute (Greece), Yale Union (OR), Big Ears Festival (TN), and the RISD Museum (RI). Recordings of his music (solo and collaborative) have been issued by New World Records, Domino, Milan, Marriage, Mexican Summer, K, Gilgongo, and Dykstra's own cottage industry label Editions Verde."

"Morgan Evans-Weiler, violinist, composer, improviser and teacher, is currently living in the Boston area working as a freelance musician and teacher.

He completed his bachelor's degree at Western Michigan University with a double degree in Music Composition and Performance studying with Renata Knific, Richard Adams, and Curtis-Curtis Smith. He studied violin further with Laura Bossert and jazz with Peter Cassino in Cambridge, Massachusetts. Currently he studies composition, theory, musicology, history and just about everything else with Peter Evans.

While in Michigan, he co-founded, performed with, and composed for the Nuevo tango band Barefoot Tango and the songwriting collective Blackwater Valley Songs. He also performed with the Traverse City and Battle Creek Symphony Orchestras, and the annual New Music Project. While in the Boston area, he has performed with the Modern American Music String Quartet, Longitude and various jazz and free-jazz groups. He has played in and composed music for performances at The Regattabar, Lilypad, and Pickman Hall (Longy School of Music) in Cambridge, as well as numerous halls and art spaces throughout Michigan.

Recently, he performed a full concert of music at Outpost 186 in Cambridge, Massachusetts. The concert included performances of several of Morgan's new works as well as performances of the works of Ruth Crawford-Seeger, Steve Reich and Ornette Coleman.

He continues to compose and perform in the Boston area."

Luke Martin is an experimental composer, performer, and writer living in Minneapolis, MN. He plays guitar and no-input mixing board, often with people in and around the Wandelweiser Group, and is part of the ensemble Ordinary Affects. Luke's work is mainly oriented toward thinking - particularly by way of silence as such - a positive relation between music and truth.

"Ashley Frith - Composer/Musical Director/Viola

Artist and educator, Ashley Frith, is a former Viola Fellow at Community MusicWorks in Providence, RI. She studied viola with Lila Brown at The Boston Conservatory. Ashley has held resident musician and teaching artist positions with Newport String Project, Revolution of Hope, and the Greater Miami Youth Symphony. She's interested in the use of sound as a healing modality, in combination with mindful practices, and the effect these tools can have on mental health. Ashley currently holds the position of Network Fellow at Community MusicWorks, exploring and sharing anti-racism work through self-love practices across a network of youth arts organizations."
