"There is jazz music outside of New York and Chicago, and it can be sophisticated and engaging. Such is the case with Imaginary Perspective by Triptet, hailing from the moist and wooded epicenter of grunge, Seattle. By discarding traditional ideas like songs and solos, Triptet takes the elevator down to the basement for a fundamental statement about sound, energy, motion, (and the lack thereof). The simple formula yields beautiful results. A piece usually begins with a really long tone by the sax or the fretless guitar. When the first tone has been established, the second tone is chosen and laid down and both tones held. The third ingredient is the percolating drum work with a large dollop of junk percussion that both anchors and cuts through the long running clouds of sound. And those long guitar and sax tones roll and change, floating with each other or pushing against each other or combining to trigger a chord like tone. It's all improvised, but it barely sneaks in under the flap of the jazz tent. Depending on what perspective you imagine, you might think you're listening to the weather. Or two Sumo wrestlers locked in fat battle. Or a sleepy baby in a crib spacing out on a slowly spinning mobile. Or you put your phrase here. Whatever you imagine, you can support new and unique musical voices and emerging record labels by checking out Triptet's Imaginary Perspective."-Engine Studios
