"Since moving to New York City, first call bassist Carlo De Rosa has had the opportunity to work with many great artists in the Jazz and Latin World. This has led to diverse musical and cultural experiences and has allowed Carlo to work with a wide variety of artists such as Ravi Coltrane, John Faddis, Yo-Yo Ma, Jack DeJohnette, Hilton Ruiz, Steve Turre, John Scofield, The Chico O'Farrill Afro-Cuban Jazz Orchestra, Tyshawn Sorey, Ed Thigpen, Brad Shepik, Ralph Alessi, Nick Brignola, Mickey Roker, Warren Bernhardt, Miguel Zenon, Jason Moran and the NYC Ballet. Proficient, creative, clearly an in-demand bassist, Carlo De Rosa is earning a reputation of very high standards. As a composer and band-leader of the quartet Cross-Fade, he also has very high standards, but outside of New York City clubs, this work has not been widely recognized. Brain Dance is set to remedy that situation! Pianist Vijay Iyer is one of the jazz world's quickly rising stars. He was described by The Village Voice as "the most commanding pianist and composer to emerge in recent years," by The New Yorker as one of "today's most important pianists... extravagantly gifted," and by the L.A. Weekly as "a boundless and deeply important young star." Most recently, in the Jazz Journalists Association Jazz Awards, Iyer was named the 2010 Musician of the Year and his album, Historicity has been nominated for a 2010 Grammy. Saxist Mark Shim recorded three albums for the legendary Blue Note label and his work was called "razor-sharp" and "ceaselessly inventive...ferocious yet subtle." by the All Music Guide. With a unique deep timbre and chops that range from swinging bop, uncut funk, to avant-garde, Shim works and records with artists such as Delfeayo Marsalis, Carmen Lundy, Greg Osby, Terence Blanchard, The Headhunters, Michele Rosewoman, Liberty Ellman, and Steve Lehman.Drummer Justin Brown is the youngest member of the group and the least known at this point, but a quick listen to Brain Dance reveals he's a powerful, potent player who is beginning to make a major name for himself. A native of Oakland, CA, he began playing drums when he was only 2. He received a full scholarship to Julliard in 2004, moved to NYC to attend and graduate and where he has remained ever since. He has peformed with Esperanza Spalding, Gretchen Parlato, Kenny Garrett, Christian McBride, Stefon Harris, Peter Apfelbaum, Gerald Clayton and Rudresh Mahanthappa."-Cuneiform
