"This session came about as the result of Nels and I having a close mutual friend, Frank Monturo. Frank was working as part of the crew for the rock band "Wilco" (of which Nels is a member). Over a period of a year or so I would get an invitation each time the band was in New York City to see the show and hang afterwards... beers, conversation, CDs exchanged... One propitious day I received an email from Nels informing me that he'd be in town with the band and actually have a few days off "...so if you want to set something up..." Knowing how rare an occurrence this was, I decided to record our first encounter while all was fresh and antennas were way up. Ken immediately came to mind since he and Nels used to play a bunch in L.A. His only question was "Should I bring all my electronics for this one?" Mike struck me as the perfect choice for this date; his multi-directional sense, ability to "frame" and bring out the "structure" inherent in chaos, and the energy man! This was an exhilarating journey for me. Jagged shapes, intense colors, unpredictable turns... fierce beauty."-Stephen Gauci, from the liner notes.
