Abecassis, Eryck / Francisco Meirino: La Gueule Du Loup (Fragment Factory)

Recording at the GRM Studios, the French duo of Eryck Abecassis and Francisco Meirino (phroq) use unpatched modular sythesizers that they program during performance, adding a level of risk and unpredictability to their detailed and rich sonic conversation, informed by decades of research and performance that both musicians bring to this intensely interesting album.

descriptions, reviews, &c.

La Gueule Du Loup explores raw improvisation in a crude, almost cruel manner. On stage the two musicians build musical sets free of pre-existing structures or recorded sounds. The electronic matrix arises from the modules and is immediately propelled into the atmosphere. The two unpatched modular sythesizers first suggest a virgin circuit. Patches are built during the performance. Cosmetic memory plays a secondary role here, catapulted styles shoving the idea of y unified single-style. This is another memory, where the patch is a substitution to ensure a sound coherence of elements, tones, micro-tones, rhythms, order and chaos."-Fragment Factory

"Spanish born in 1975, Francisco Meirino is active since 1994 (as phroq until 2009) in experimental music and live performance.

His music explores the tension between programmable material and the potential for its failure, he is primarily interested in the idea of recording what is not supposed to be : gear failures, the death of PA systems, magnetic fields and electro-static noises and in how he can use them and hear them radically out of context.

Francisco Meirino's music is fascinating by its physical intensity and detail precision.

He mainly works with the computer, (eurorack) modular synthesizer, reel-to-reel tape recorders, magnetic fields detectors, piezo tranducers, field recorders and various home-made electronics.

More than 150 live performances in various venues in Europe, Japan and North America and in festivals such as :

Ende Tymes (New York, USA) / Cable (Nantes, France) / Santander Arte Sonore (Santander, Spain) / Activating The Medium (San Francisco, USA) / LUFF does Tokyo (Toyko, Japan) / Observatori (Valencia, Spain) / Musica Genera (Warsaw, Poland) / Norberg Electronic Music Festival (Norberg, Sweden) / Akousma (Montréal, Canada) / Lausanne Underground Film and Music Festival (LUFF, Lausanne, Switzerland) / Ertz (Bera, Spain) among others...

Eryck Abecassis / Leif Elggren / Dave Phillips / Scott Arford / Michael Gendreau / Michael Esposito / Randy H.Y. Yau / Lasse Marhaug / Gerritt Wittmer / Kiko C. Esseiva / Jason Kahn / ILIOS / Tim Olive / Mike Shiflet / Roro Perrot / ...
