Watch out William P! Joe Morris' bass line has improved 120 percent - the intense ferocity, the plucking, the drive. This Rob Brown quartet, a new quartet with Gerald Cleaver on drums, Brown on flute, clarinet for the first time, and alto sax, Steve Swell on trombone and Morris on bass, is amazing. Brown at the helm eases each of the men in driving each other into the heat on this well-below-freezing, icy day. The only problem I had is that the group's slow-groove blues piece didn't quite gel, except Swell's solo and two-thirds of the way through when Gerald took an amazing double time solo which started as a slow march.
