Rashied Ali and Sonny Fortune proved as always why they are true veterans of this music, weaving in and out of each other with perfection. This is a mature duet that uses standards as their vehicle and jumping-off point. Their improvisations and their interactions are superb.

Sadly, the shows were ill-attended, ranging from six to 15 people over their several-night stint. Sweet Rhythm is the new club on Seventh Avenue South that used to be Sweet Basil. It is very similar to Sweet Basil, including one of the original barflies and Joe, one of the original bartenders. As usual, there is a cover as well as a minimum.
