Berlin saxophonist & bass clarinetist Silke Eberhard leads her trio with Jan Roder on bass and Kay Lubke on drums through a conceptual jazz album where tracks are connected by a fictional Inn, opening a literal door to the album and then introducing us to superb playing on Dolphy or Mahall-inspired free jazz, including a "Willisau Suite", "Towels", a "Wake-Up Call", &c.

Hybrid Ear (Schacher / Unternahrer / Arrizabalaga): Nuda

With discographies reaching back to the 80s, the trio of Beat Unternahrer on trombone and Furst-Pless-Horn, Jan Schacher on contrabass, objects and voice, and Pelayo Arrizabalaga, known for his reed work, on turntables and sine-generator, create 16 mostly improvised, succinct works that are influenced by free jazz, ea-improv, and sonic composition.

Turkish free improviser trumpeter Mazen Kerbaj, best known for the "A" Trio, meets Japanese no-input mixing board pioneer Toshimaru Nakamura for an insanely energetic duo of squelchy electroacoustic improvisations, both players staying on the electric side, and on the far side of lowercase ea-improv as the two ebb and flow a wild dialog of sound.

Multi-reedist Peter Kuhn returned to the San Diego scene in 2013, forming the Dependent Origination band with a core of drummer Alex Cline and saxophonist Dave Sewelson, referencing the Buddhist concept of interdependent co-arising; 4 years later this album adding Dan Clucas (cornet) & Scott Walton (bass) represents the current state of this excellent collective band.

Weston, Veryan: The Make Project

A collaborative composition by Veryan Weston, Christine Duncan and Jean Martin, performed with Jesse & Joshua Zubot on violin and Andrew Downing on bass & cello, based on Weston's score "Tessellation IV (Make)", the composed material based on 52 quotations by women writers, each sung on a 5-note (pentatonic) scale, each scale changing by one note when the word "make" is sung.

Sound explorer Kurt Liedwart compiles a cassette release from works he composed during 2015 to 2017 using mostly sound sources from electronics and synthesizers and based on studio improvisations, presented as six compositions of noise, drones, polyrhythmic excursions, glitchy playing on modular synth, processed field recordings, &c &c.

In 2012 choreographer Ivan Perez asked Rutger Zuydervelt (Machinefabriek) to work on a score for his dance piece, "Hide And Seek", and to create the piece in collaboration with cellist and multi-instrumentalist Aaron Martin, this album, a rich electroacoustic collaboration, presents the first sketches of what would eventually be one long continuous collage used in performance.

Swiss composer and percussionist Cyril Bondi, recording with d'incise, renders his piece "euhesma" (a genus within the bee family in Australia), a work performed on indian harmonium, melodica, harmonica, pitch pipes, and electric organ that slowly introduces and overlaps tones, varying the pitch, harmony, and amplitude to create rich aural environments.
